Grails is really easy to get started with on green-field projects because the domain model defines the database schema, so you don't have to worry about that side of things.
But what if you need to work against an existing database?
putting in mind that there's no error in the stack trace to the save call will cause an exception to be thrown if it doesn't pass validation.
If this simple example works start working back towards a more elegant solution to identify where you're issue resides.
