The study of fossils and the exploration of what they tell scientists about past climates and environments on Earth can be an interesting study for students of all ages.
Teaching about Earth's history is a challenge for all teachers.
The most prized specimens for research are flawed with visible inclusions (figure 2), for these carry actual samples of mantle minerals from depths as great as 800 km beneath the surface.
As a result, study combining the inclusion and its diamond host is a powerful tool for geologic research, which itself has improved our understanding of diamond formation. The purpose of this article is to describe our current understanding of where, how, when, and why natural diamonds have been formed.The Wheeler Formation has been previously dated to approximately 507 million year old, so we know the trilobite is also about 507 million years old.But, how can we determine how old a rock formation is, if it hasn’t previously been dated? There are two main methods determining a fossils age, relative dating and absolute dating.Relative dating is used to determine a fossils approximate age by comparing it to similar rocks and fossils of known ages.
